Mentoring Possibilities
We will be contacting Sierra next semester to see if this opportunity is still available!!
Ok guys if anyone of you are interested in becoming a mentor I have copied the email sent to us from a representative of the Wicomico Mentoring Project. Read below to find out information.
Good Afternoon,
My name is Sierra Morgan and currently I am a business intern for the Wicomico Mentoring Project. My goal with this internship is to seek mentors for local elementary, middle, and high school students by creating a partnership between the Salisbury University Campus Organizations and the Wicomico Mentoring Project.
The Wicomico Mentoring Project has been in existence for 14 years. There are at least 60 mentors already from SU, but I want that number to increase. We are asking that potential mentors donate one hour a week during the child’s school time for the entire school year to meet with their mentee. While this may seem like a short time to spend with a student, your help can keep our children in school and help them make better grades and choices.
The application process consists of an application with a background check. Mentors usually can start within two weeks after completing the application. Coordinators from each school match mentors with students according to their interests. The first visit to the student’s school consists of orientation and training.
I may have spoken to someone from your organization during the Student Activities Fair on August 30. I am asking if members of your organization would be interested in mentoring students. If you have a small organization, maybe you will like a few students to mentor as a whole. I believe that the act of mentoring can be used as a community service activity recognized by SGA. I hope that you and your organization will consider becoming a mentor because there are over 800 students without mentors. I am willing to come to your meeting to discuss the Wicomico Mentoring Project, just send me a message with the date and time of your meeting. Thank you for your attention in this matter!
